Sori Yanagi for Vitra Maple Butterfly Stool (test product

Originally designed by Sori Yanagi in 1954, the Butterfly Stool has since become a design icon.

Rooted in the designer’s Japanese aesthetic, the stool was created using the moulded plywood techniques that were first developed by Charles and Ray Eames.

The stool has a curved silhouette, constructed from two Maple wood forms which join to create a shape reminiscent of a butterfly's open wings.

Beautifully designed and constructed, this stool could easily be a stand alone piece in a contemporary living space or combined with other seating around a table in a dining room or office.
