Roche Bobois by Hans Hopfer and Kenzo Fabric Mah Jong Sectional Sofa, Set of 15

Originally designed by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois in 1971, the Mah Jong sofa has become a design classic.

Since its original conception, Roche Bobois has collaborated with a variety of design houses to upholster the sofa, bringing the design into the 21st century.

Comprising of fifteen pieces, the set is made up of ten floor cushions, three back units, two corner units, and with seven scatter cushions. All of the pieces are upholstered with fabric designed by Kenzo Takada, in a mixture of colours and fabrics, including velvet bold stripes and bright plaid.

To ‘dress' the Mah Jong modular sofa, Takada took inspiration from ancient kimonos used in the Noh Theatre, re-interpreting their patterns and colours to create fine and sophisticated harmonies symbolising the 3 times of the day: Asa (morning), Hiru (midday), Yoru (evening).‎

Incredibly versatile, the floor cushions are button tufted and can be stacked to create different heights, while the modular set can be configured into corner units or arranged to create a variety of seating options.

The informal style of the sofa gives a relaxed and playful aesthetic, while the combination of comfort and flexibility makes it the perfect option for any contemporary living space.
