Description

This vintage 3-seater sofa by Josef Frank is upholstered in linen. The beautiful print of storks and lotus' would bring a feel of the oriental to your home. In the 1920s, Josef Frank was one of Vienna's foremost figures in modernism but later he interrogated the principals of the movement, concerned that interiors, and the people that inhabited them, would become too uniform. Out of this concern, in the 1930s, emerged Frank's freer style which emphasised prints, textiles, and colour, all of which can be found in this sofa for Svenskt Kenn. The bold colours and designs became a hallmark of "Swedish Modern", a term which was born of Frank and Ericson's collaboration and exhibition at the World Expositions in Paris in 1937. A slight departure from modernism, the sofa's structure recalls the simple lines of modernist design. This piece would suit both contemporary and more traditional spaces.
